Same age as Jeff Astle when he died. Sad news indeed,always seemed like a good bloke when interviewed. Uncle of Jason Roberts.

Can barely remember him playing when I started going football, so am surprised he was only 16 years older than me.

Always a shock when players you saw playing pass away. He was a good player. That was a decent Coventry team that beat Spurs in the 87 final.

Terrible loss, he, along with Laurie Cunningham and Brendon Batson at WBA helped pave the way for a generation of black footballers.
Met him once, lovely fella. Had some great stories too. Big Ron used to play black against white in training drills.....Cyril said he never had an issue because they always won!

Memories of 1970s match of the day and tight shorts. A whole cultural shift. He was at the centre of it for me along with Jazz Funk and Soul and Chicken George.
Only positive memories.

I think he was down in Leyton recently for an unveiling of a statue of Laurie Cunningham. Sad news.
